Today's automotive power consumtion is 3KW: which will increase to 10KW in next 5 years and 12V batttary is unable to provide that much power. 48-12V bi-directional convertor provides high power requirement solution with two phases each capable of running 28A. This solution allows bidirectional current control of both phases using a C2000 control stick and firmware OCP & OVP. The 48-12V bi-directional converter removes the voltage conditioner need and distributes loads more evenly. The 48V battary is used to power high torque motors and other high power components such as A/C compressors and EPS: while no change to 12V battery loads.

The SM72442 MPPT digital controller and SM72295 photovoltaic full bridge drivers are designed to control high efficiency DC/DC conversion used in photovoltaic applications. This application note will detail the usage of those devices in a battery charging application. The reference design is meant to provide support for a wide variety of implementations: however: unless otherwise noted: this reference design system is shown charging a 12V commercial automotive lead acid battery.If the battery voltage is very low: a slow charge current is applied and limited until the voltage rises above a pre-set threshold value Vt. The full charge current is then applied. Once full charge is detected on the voltage of the battery: the system switches to a floating charge and maintains the battery voltage at a fixed threshold. At any time: the system will run in MPPT mode if the available power is lower than the power required to achieve voltage or current regulation.

Low voltage brushed DC drives are used in many applications. TI offers a rich family of brushed DC motor driver solutions with flexible control interface options for one or more brushed DC motors up to 60V. For applications which require higher torque and power: often voltages above 60VDC are used. The TIDA-00365 protected full-bridge operates at nominal 75VDC input and 10A output current and features bipolar high-side current sensing leveraging a 100V full-bridge gate driver SM72295 with integrated amplifiers and four 100V NexFET power MOSFETs with ultra-low gate charge and small SON5x6 package with low thermal resistance. The power stage is protected against over-temperature: over-current and short-circuit between the motor terminals and motor terminals to ground. 75V/10A Protected Full-Bridge Power Stage Reference Design for Bipolar Stepper Drives
Stepper drives are used in many applications operating typically from 12VDC to 48VDC. TI offers a rich family of stepper motor driver solutions with industry standard step/direction and parallel control interfaces. For applications which require higher torque and power: often voltages above 48VDC: up to 100VDC are used. The TIDA-00210 provides a solution for such stepper drives. The TIDA-00210 uses two protected full-bridge power stages based on TIDA-00365 in parallel configuration. Each full-bridge operates nominal 75VDC and 10Arms phase current and features bipolar high-side current sensing leveraging a 100V full-bridge gate driver SM72295 with integrated amplifiers and four 100V NexFET power MOSFETs with ultra-low gate charge and small SON5x6 package with low thermal resistance. Solar MPPT Charge Controller Reference Design
This design is a 20A Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) solar charge controller created for solar panel inputs corresponding to 12V and 24V panels. The design is targeted for small and medium power solar charger solutions and is capable of operating with 12V/24V panels and 12V/24V batteries up to 20A output current. Designed with scalability in mind: it can easily be adapted to a 48V system by changing the MOSFETs to 100V rated parts. The user can also increase the current to 40A by using the TO-220 package version of same MOSFETs used currently. The Solar MPPT Charge Controller was created with real world considerations: including reverse battery protection and software programmable alarms and indications provided in hardware but were left non-configured. The design has an operating efficiency of above 97% at full load in a 24V system. For 12V systems the efficiency is above 96% and includes losses in the reverse battery protection MOSFETs.
