  • Richtek provides a recommended PCB layout in their application note ANI-23, which includes guidelines for thermal vias, copper pours, and component placement to minimize thermal resistance and ensure reliable operation.

  • The output capacitor selection depends on the output voltage, output current, and ripple requirements. Richtek recommends using a low-ESR capacitor with a minimum capacitance of 10uF and a voltage rating of at least 1.5 times the output voltage. The X5R or X7R dielectric type is recommended for its low temperature coefficient and high reliability.

  • Although the datasheet specifies a maximum input voltage of 18V, Richtek recommends limiting the input voltage to 16V to ensure reliable operation and prevent damage to the internal components.

  • The RT9728ALGE has a built-in overcurrent protection feature that can be enabled by connecting a resistor between the OCP pin and the GND pin. The value of the resistor determines the overcurrent threshold. Richtek provides a calculation formula in their datasheet to determine the correct resistor value based on the desired overcurrent threshold.

  • Richtek recommends using a ceramic capacitor with a value of 1uF to 10uF and a voltage rating of at least 25V. The X5R or X7R dielectric type is recommended for its low temperature coefficient and high reliability. The input capacitor should be placed as close as possible to the VIN pin to minimize noise and ripple.
