MCP23S17-E/SSVAO Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • The maximum frequency of the SPI interface is 10 MHz. However, it's recommended to operate at 5 MHz or lower to ensure reliable communication.

  • You can use the HAEN (Hardware Address Enable) pin to enable or disable the address pins (A0, A1, A2). This allows you to connect multiple devices to the same SPI bus and address them individually.

  • The RESET pin is an active-low input that resets the device when pulled low. It's used to initialize the device and set all registers to their default values. It's recommended to tie this pin to a pull-up resistor to ensure the device doesn't reset unintentionally.

  • The interrupt pins can be configured to trigger on specific events such as rising or falling edges, or high or low levels. This is done by setting the corresponding bits in the GPINTENx and IOCONx registers. Refer to the datasheet for more information on the specific bit settings.

  • The maximum current that can be sourced or sunk by the GPIO pins is 25 mA. However, it's recommended to limit the current to 10 mA or less to ensure reliable operation and prevent overheating.
