A good PCB layout for the LT1790 involves keeping the input and output traces short and separate, using a solid ground plane, and placing the bypass capacitors close to the device. A 4-layer PCB with a dedicated power plane and a solid ground plane is recommended.
To ensure the accuracy of the output voltage, it is essential to use a high-precision external resistor divider network, and to minimize the thermal gradient across the device. Additionally, the output voltage should be measured at the output pin of the device, rather than at the load.
The LT1790 can drive a maximum capacitive load of 10uF. However, it is recommended to limit the capacitive load to 4.7uF or less to ensure stability and optimal performance.
To protect the LT1790 from overvoltage and overcurrent conditions, it is recommended to use a voltage clamp or a transient voltage suppressor (TVS) at the input, and to add a current-limiting resistor in series with the output.
The LT1790 has a thermal derating of 5.9mW/°C above 25°C. This means that the device's power dissipation should be reduced by 5.9mW for every degree Celsius above 25°C to prevent overheating.
