STMicroelectronics provides a recommended PCB layout in the application note AN5275, which includes guidelines for component placement, routing, and thermal management to ensure optimal performance and minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI).
The input capacitor selection depends on the input voltage, output voltage, and output current. A general guideline is to choose a capacitor with a voltage rating of at least 1.5 times the input voltage, and a capacitance value between 1uF to 10uF. The application note AN5275 provides more detailed guidance on input capacitor selection.
While the datasheet specifies an operating temperature range of -40°C to 150°C, the maximum ambient temperature for reliable operation is typically considered to be around 125°C. Above this temperature, the device's reliability and performance may be compromised.
To ensure EMC, follow the guidelines in the application note AN5275, which includes recommendations for PCB layout, component selection, and shielding. Additionally, consider using a metal shield or a shielded inductor to reduce radiated emissions.
The recommended output capacitor value and type depend on the output voltage and current. A general guideline is to use a low-ESR ceramic capacitor with a value between 1uF to 10uF. The application note AN5275 provides more detailed guidance on output capacitor selection.
