NMV0515DAC Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Murata recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane on the bottom layer, and a power plane on the internal layer. The DAC output should be routed away from the power plane to minimize noise coupling. A detailed layout guide is available in the Murata application note AN581.

  • Murata recommends using a 10uF ceramic capacitor in parallel with a 100nF ceramic capacitor, both placed as close as possible to the VCC pin. Additionally, a 10uF electrolytic capacitor can be used on the input voltage line to filter out low-frequency noise.

  • Although the datasheet specifies a maximum clock frequency of 50MHz, Murata recommends limiting the clock frequency to 40MHz to ensure reliable operation and minimize jitter. Higher clock frequencies may require additional filtering and noise reduction measures.

  • To minimize EMI, Murata recommends using a series resistor (e.g., 22Ω) and a ferrite bead in the digital output line. Additionally, the output signal should be routed away from sensitive analog circuits and the PCB should be designed with EMI shielding in mind.

  • The NMV0515DAC has a thermal derating of 2.5mW/°C above 25°C. This means that the device's power dissipation should be reduced as the ambient temperature increases to prevent overheating and ensure reliable operation. Murata recommends using a thermal pad or heat sink to improve heat dissipation.
