MP8795HGLE-Z Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and thermal vias is recommended. Keep the switching node (SW) away from sensitive analog nodes, and use a thermal relief pattern under the IC to improve heat dissipation.

  • Use a combination of ceramic and electrolytic capacitors for the output filter. Choose capacitors with low ESR and high ripple current ratings. A 10uF ceramic capacitor in parallel with a 22uF electrolytic capacitor is a good starting point.

  • A 10uF to 22uF X5R or X7R ceramic capacitor is recommended for the input capacitor. This type of capacitor provides low ESR and high ripple current capability, ensuring stable operation.

  • Add a TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diode in parallel with the input capacitor to protect the regulator from high voltage transients. Choose a TVS diode with a standoff voltage rating higher than the maximum input voltage.

  • Keep the feedback network traces short and away from noisy nodes. Use a separate analog ground plane for the feedback network, and connect it to the main ground plane at a single point. Avoid routing the feedback traces near the inductor or switching node.
