  • The recommended power-on sequence is to apply VDD before applying VREF. This ensures that the internal voltage reference is stable before the DAC starts operating.

  • To ensure accurate voltage output, it is essential to decouple the VREF pin with a 10uF capacitor to ground, and use a low-noise, low-impedance voltage source for VREF. Additionally, ensure that the output voltage is buffered with an op-amp if it needs to drive a load.

  • The maximum output current of the MCP4811 is 5mA. Exceeding this current may cause the output voltage to droop or the device to overheat.

  • The MCP4811 can be interfaced with a microcontroller using a SPI interface. The microcontroller should send the desired DAC code as a 12-bit word, with the most significant bit (MSB) first, followed by the least significant bit (LSB) last.

  • The settling time of the MCP4811 is typically 10us, which is the time it takes for the output voltage to settle within 1/2 LSB of the final value after a code change.
