The maximum sampling rate of the MCP3204 is 100 ksps (kilosamples per second) for a single channel, and 50 ksps for multiple channels.
The VREF pin is used to set the reference voltage for the ADC. It can be connected to an external voltage reference or to the internal 2.048V reference voltage by connecting it to the VDD pin through a resistor.
The VHYST pin is used to set the hysteresis voltage for the internal voltage reference. It is typically connected to the VDD pin through a resistor to set the hysteresis voltage to 1.024V.
The MCP3204 can be configured for differential or pseudo-differential mode by setting the corresponding bits in the configuration register. Differential mode is used for true differential measurements, while pseudo-differential mode is used for single-ended measurements with a common-mode voltage.
The CHAN pin is used to select the channel to be converted. It is used in conjunction with the SCAN pin to select one of the four channels.
