The maximum sampling rate of the MCP3204 is 100 ksps (kilosamples per second) for a single channel, and 50 ksps for multiple channels.
The MCP3204 can be configured for differential or pseudo-differential mode by setting the appropriate bits in the Configuration Register (CR). For differential mode, set bit 7 (DIFF) to 1, and for pseudo-differential mode, set bit 7 (DIFF) to 0 and bit 6 (PDIFF) to 1.
The VREF pin is used to set the reference voltage for the analog-to-digital conversion. The VREF pin can be connected to an external voltage reference or to the internal 2.048V reference voltage.
The conversion result from the MCP3204 is a 12-bit unsigned binary number. The result can be right-justified or left-justified, depending on the setting of the Right-Justified (RJ) bit in the Configuration Register (CR).
The power consumption of the MCP3204 depends on the operating mode and the clock frequency. In normal mode, the typical power consumption is 350 μA at 5V and 100 ksps. In low-power mode, the typical power consumption is 20 μA at 5V and 100 ksps.
