The maximum sampling rate of the MCP3201 is 100 ksps (kilosamples per second) for a single channel, and 50 ksps for multiple channels.
To configure the MCP3201 for differential mode, connect the positive input to VIN+ and the negative input to VIN-, and set the DIF bit in the Configuration Register to 1. For pseudo-differential mode, connect the positive input to VIN+ and the negative input to GND, and set the DIF bit to 0.
The VREF pin is used to provide an external reference voltage to the ADC. This allows the user to set the full-scale range of the ADC to a specific voltage level.
The MCP3201 outputs a 12-bit result, which can be right-justified or left-justified depending on the configuration. The result can be read from the ADC Result Register, and can be processed further in the microcontroller or other digital system.
The power consumption of the MCP3201 depends on the operating mode and clock frequency. In normal mode, the typical current consumption is 350 μA at 5V and 100 ksps. In low-power mode, the typical current consumption is 20 μA at 5V and 10 ksps.
