  • The maximum frequency of the I2C clock is 400 kHz, but it can be operated at 100 kHz or 400 kHz depending on the application.

  • The MCP23018 has three I/O configuration registers (IODIRA, IODIRB, and IODIRC) that allow you to configure each pin as an input or output. A '1' in the register sets the pin as an input, while a '0' sets it as an output.

  • The INTA and INTB pins are interrupt output pins that can be used to signal to the microcontroller that an input has changed state. They can be configured to trigger on rising, falling, or both edges.

  • The MCP23018 can be reset by holding the SCL pin low for a minimum of 10 ms. This will reset the device and all registers will be set to their default values.

  • The maximum current that can be sourced or sunk by the MCP23018 is 25 mA per pin, with a total device current limit of 125 mA.
