  • A good layout and routing practice is to keep the input and output traces separate, use a solid ground plane, and place decoupling capacitors close to the device. Additionally, it's recommended to use a low-ESR capacitor for the output filter and to minimize the loop area of the feedback network.

  • The output inductor should be chosen based on the desired output voltage, output current, and switching frequency. A good starting point is to use an inductor with a value between 1-10 μH, and a current rating that exceeds the maximum output current. The inductor's DC resistance and core material should also be considered.

  • Although the datasheet specifies a maximum input voltage of 12V, the device can handle up to 14V with some derating. However, it's recommended to operate the device within the specified range to ensure reliability and prevent damage.

  • The EL8100IS has a built-in overcurrent protection feature that can be enabled by connecting a resistor between the OC pin and the input voltage. The value of the resistor determines the overcurrent threshold.
