  • The recommended power-up sequence is to apply VCC first, followed by VBAT. This ensures that the internal circuitry is properly initialized.

  • To ensure reliable oscillator startup, a 1-10 kΩ resistor can be connected between the X1 and X2 pins. This helps to reduce the risk of oscillation failure due to stray capacitance.

  • The RST pin is an active-low reset input that can be used to reset the DS1314S-2+. It should be tied to VCC through a 1 kΩ resistor and a 0.1 μF capacitor to ensure proper reset operation.

  • When VBAT is lower than VCC, the DS1314S-2+ will not switch to battery backup mode. To handle this case, a voltage comparator or a supervisory circuit can be used to detect when VBAT falls below VCC, and then switch to battery backup mode.

  • The maximum capacitance that can be connected to the X1 and X2 pins is 12.5 pF. Exceeding this value may affect the oscillator's reliability and accuracy.
